Commercial sourcing scope
A custom assembly is repeatable only when the bill of materials and connection map are controlled. Photos and informal names help communication but should not replace a drawing, port map and measurable acceptance requirement.
The specification should identify cable construction and source, connector manufacturer or performance class where required, ferrule polish, fiber mode, fanout, branch lengths, numbering, labels, protective components, pulling hardware, cleanliness, packaging and optical test criteria.
Specification and selection table
| Decision item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Drawing control | Revision, dimensions, tolerance and orientation |
| BOM control | Cable, connector, boot, tube, label and accessories |
| Optical control | Test wavelength, insertion and return-loss limits |
| Packing control | Coil radius, protective caps, bag label and carton quantity |
Standards and engineering interpretation
Connector and cabling standards define interfaces and performance, but the custom drawing remains the configuration authority. Any substitution process should be stated in the quotation.
