Commercial sourcing scope
Drop cable connects the distribution network to the subscriber and often passes through the most bend-sensitive, handling-intensive part of the route. A commercial specification should distinguish indoor, outdoor, duct, façade and aerial sections rather than using one description for every installation.
Confirm flat or round construction, fiber count, G.657 grade, strength-member material, self-supporting messenger if required, sheath type, color, print legend, nominal cable size, tensile and crush requirements, delivery length and pre-connectorization.
Specification and selection table
| Decision item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Indoor route | Confirm flame, smoke and local building requirements |
| Outdoor route | Confirm UV, moisture and temperature exposure |
| Bend-sensitive route | Select compatible G.657 fiber and installation radius |
| Termination | Field connector, splice or factory connectorized end |
Standards and engineering interpretation
ITU-T G.657 addresses bend-insensitive single-mode fiber characteristics. Cable construction and mechanical acceptance are specified separately through the applicable cable standard and customer requirement.
