Commercial sourcing scope
Parallel-optics assemblies require a complete connectivity map. A purchase description that omits polarity or pinning can produce a mechanically compatible assembly that does not establish the intended transmit-to-receive path.
State interface type, 8/12/16/24-fiber population, male or female connector, key orientation, polarity method, fiber mode, connector loss grade, cable construction, length, breakout mapping, pulling-eye requirement and test-report format.
Specification and selection table
| Decision item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Polarity | Method A, B, C or project-specific mapping |
| Interface | Fiber count, key orientation and pin configuration |
| Optical acceptance | Insertion loss, return loss, wavelength and test method |
| Documentation | Channel map plus test result by fiber position |
Standards and engineering interpretation
Polarity must be reviewed as an end-to-end channel, not as a cable label in isolation. The transceiver interface, cassette or conversion module and duplex patching all affect the final mapping.
